Welcome / Bienvenue / Ben-vindo

west_africaThe Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FEWACCI) is the leading voice of the private sector in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).  Its membership consists of all the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the 15 countries of the ECOWAS region.  It interacts with both national governments and ECOWAS Commission to promote the development of the private sector in a healthy, competitive and environmentally sound manner with a view to contributing towards economic growth in the region.

In this regard, it promotes intra-ECOWAS trade in goods and services through the provision of business support services, participation in trade negotiations at both national and regional levels, building the capacity of the private sector and playing advocacy role to create awareness about the concerns of the private sector among governments of its member countries and at the level of ECOWAS Commission.  Its overaching goal is to achieve economic integration of the West African region.

About Us

-In their quest to achieve rapid economic growth and development in the ECOWAS region, member countries of the West African region through their regional organisation, ECOWAS, have recognised the crucial role of the private sector in the attainment of their objective to promote integration through increasing intra-ECOWAS trade.

ECOWAS member countries therefore consider the private sector as the main actor in the conduct of regional and international trade and in production and distribution of goods and services.

However, they are aware that the private sector in the region has been hindered in its effort to take advantage of the various multi and bi-lateral trade agreements entered into by the countries of the region.

Consequently, the National Chambers of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with ECOWAS Commission initiated steps to reinvigorate the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry which was established in the 1970s.
